General Genetics

Reasons you may be referred to a general genetics clinic. If you or a biological relative:

Have a known or suspected genetic condition such as (but not limited to) fragile X, muscular dystrophy, hemophilia or cystic fibrosis

Have a single or multiple congenital (from birth) abnormality such as a cleft lip, cleft palate and/or a heart defect

Have developmental delay of unknown cause

Have a personal family history of a genetic condition

Are of an ethnic background known to be more susceptible to certain inherited disorders (such as Mediterranean, French Canadian, or Ashkenazi Jewish ancestry)

Have a previous child with a birth defect or chromosome abnormality
